Amethyst gets its signature purple color from a combination of trace elements and natural radiation during its formation. 💜 The Science Behind the Color Amethyst is a variety of quartz, and its color comes from: Trace amounts of iron (Fe) within the crystal Natural radiation exposure from surrounding rocks in the earth When quartz containing iron is exposed to radiation over long periods, it causes changes in the crystal structure.
